CAMPAIGN
OSTRÓW LUBELSKI 2003
In the first week of October, 2003 we had a privilege of preaching the Good News in Ostrów Lubelski. This town is situated about 40 kilometres north-east of Lublin and it has over 2,000 inhabitants. We had never had evangelistic concerts there before. Coming to that town we felt like apostle Paul when he was saying that he found the door open in the Lord.
The preparations for the concerts started in September. At the end of that month we came to Ostrów. Our missionary team consisted of 6 Norwegians and 6 Polish people. We lived in a school dormitory.
Altogether we had 8 concerts, out of which 3 - the ones for students - started at midday. The students used to come with the whole classes and their teachers. The main concerts were held at 6 p.m., every day from Thursday to Sunday. We also had one special concert for children at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
The concerts were attended mostly by a lot of young people, but we could see many adults and children as well. One evangelistic concert at midday was attended by all the students (i.e. about 70) from a primary school in a nearby village.
Every day the hall seemed too small for those great numbers of spectators. Although it had 150 seats, many people had to stand. When we used to open the door before the beginning of the concerts, a stream of people was rushing inside to get convenient seats. Some of them came several times during the week and there were some who did not miss any concert. They were also coming from nearby towns and villages.
As usual, our programme consisted of songs worshipping God, dramas, dances, choreography and pantomimes. Of course we also had multimedia light effects etc. In addition, we were showing fragments of the film about the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus, combined with a live song, "Obsession". It made a great impression upon the listeners so we could hear some people crying. Many of us shared testimonies of our conversion to Lord Jesus. The message of the Gospel was preached by Ronald, Kasia, Margrete, Kristoffer and Michael. At the end we had the altar call for those who wanted to follow Jesus and many hands were raised. Numerous people also came forward to give their life to God. The Gospel reached almost 1,000 people and about 1/3 of them made a decision to accept Lord Jesus into their hearts. It was often an unforgettable sight. God opened the door and great possibilities. After the concerts we had long talks with a lot of young and very open people.
Besides our team, the youth from Lublin also came there and on Saturday as well as on Sunday they were performing together with Euromission, presenting a very interesting musical and artistic programme. Many believers who came from Lublin, Lubartów, Parczew, Sosnowica and neighbouring towns were really encouraged and edified.
We also had an opportunity to distribute many New Testaments and hundreds of evangelistic leaflets. We are glad that many people will be able to read the Word of God, which has power to save them and change their lives. Apart from the concerts we participated in a few lessons in the local high school, where we talked about Lord Jesus and gave testimonies of experiencing God. We had even more invitations to lessons in schools, but we were not able to take advantage of them all. Please pray for this town which needs God's love. We have heard that unemployment there reaches almost 50 %. We want to pray for God to give growth to the seed of the Gospel so that it should bring abundant fruit. Let great spiritual revival come to Ostrów!
